Potassium hydroxide, commonly known as caustic potassium, is white solid. Potassium hydroxide is soluble in water and alcohol, but not in ether. It is easily hygroscopic and deliquescent in the air. It can react with carbon dioxide to produce potassium carbonate. So it can be used to absorb carbon dioxide. It will volatilize but not decompose at high temperature. It is often used as the source of hydroxide radical in the laboratory.
